2002 S80 A Pillar Removal

Post by lancemangold »

Hi All,

I've had some water accumulate in the passenger floorboard after some heavy rain. From what I've researched so far this is classic sunroof drain blocked or unattached and I need to remove the A Pillar cover to access the tube, remove it, clean it and make sure it's attached firmly. (correct me if I'm wrong)

I started to pull at the A Pillar cover (I think that's what it's called. the part that connects the roof to the dash in the front of the car) and seemed to pop away a bit but I was afraid to pull to hard and break something not allowing me to put it back properly.

Any instructions/advice on addressing this?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I did remove my A Pillar trim on my S80 but it is a 99 model, I did it because the material was peeling.

It should be the same, you should remove the door seal which you only pull and then you put your fingers on top of A Pillar trim under it and you pull it gently it will only pop a little than go a little bit down where you will find another clip which you pull too gently, after you do this you go on top and under the trim you should be able to see the spring you should remove it from the place where it is holding on A pillar with a screwdriver, after you do it nearly at the bottom there is another clip and then you should move it up and down while you pull it to remove the teeth from dashboard .

Check also the drain hole under the windscreen wiper as there could collect leafs which block it and then the water goes in the blowing fan on the cabin filter and on the floor.

I hope I could help.

Thanks for your feedback. I finally manned up and pulled off the pillar cover and there is no sunroof drainage tube under there.

Just this weird thing which as far as I can tell is not a drainage tube so how do I ensure the sunroof is able to drain properly. I've shoved some wire in from the sunroof end but can only reach so far.:

I'm glad I could help for removing the A pillar trim, about drainage tube I don't know what to say as my car does not have a sunroof, all I can say that thing it is for your side airbag and don't touch it.

Open the sunroof and check if you can see any hole for drainage and then search on that way.

If you see any hole while the sunroof is opened and if you have air compressor than blow some air through them and then try them with some water you should see water on the ground.

@Volvo_S80

Yup, I had a feeling that was an airbag so I quit pawing at it least I lose an eye.

Will seek out an air compressor and do that.

Thanks
