Volvo 240 1990 tranny

Post by codtay56 »

quick question guys

while driving i saw a volvo 240Dl wagon. that has been sitting for awhile and i asked the owner if they wanted to sell it. she said its been sitting cause her husband passed away.

as far as i know.- it needs a new odometer gear- doesnt work- was stuck at 171k miles. she said she bought it like that. so could be well over 200k no telling though. has a slight burning smell after running for a bit. granted its been sitting for about 3 years with no starts. needs new battery. wipers dont work could be motor or a fuse.

started right up after a jump.

after checking the fluids the tranny fluid wass a brown color. i havent driven it yet. tmw i will. i think it hass the AW70.

we settled on 350$ if it ends up driving.

should i pull the trigger or do you think the tranny most likely needs a rebuild?

To be honest I've never smelt burnt fluid so I couldn't tell you. But it doesn't smell like burnt rubber or smoke or anything. But thought brown was just a sign of a tranny going bad.

It's probably just old fluid, drive it around and see how it acts.
