RMS and ATP 205 observation

Post by Clemens »

So I just wanted to report on the results of ATP 205 and the RMS on my 180.000+ mile 96R:

The 2 POs probably never did the PCV System, so I got it with the crossmember covered in oil and a few Drops of oil on the Garage floor over night a year ago. I switched to M1 0W-40, replaced the oil trap, all tubes and so, still not sufficient vacuum (compression good and even, though). Did the PCV components again and did the large hose mo to the ptc. Finalöly good vaccum (this past may). There was less oil Spill, but still,a fter spirited driving it would still leak. Got ATP 205 (Looks like Amazon is good for something at all) and poured a bottle into the motor. I waited eagerly for the magic to happen, but after 5 hours of driving (which according to ATP is the maximum time it should take to cure a RMS seal) it was still dripping happily. Disappointed I wanted to drain it all out and get the RMS done properly, but time was little and temps dropped and so on, and because ATP said you can leave it in till the next oil change, that´s what I did. Kept driving and then after some 20 hours the miracle happened: the cardboad on my garage floor didn´t get oily anymore.

So this is to all you RMS victims out there: don´t get discouraged if the problem persists after the 5 hour mark, it might still get better.
I know the Problem won´t be cured forever, but then, I´d rather spend a Grand down the road than right now. Just because...

How much oil per week would you say you were losing? I had a trans leak of approximately 0.5L/week, which ATP 205 (at the recommendation of MVS) did not cure, after 2 weeks of driving.

wow, that is alot... I´m talking maybe 0,25 l a month with 3-4 tanks full of gas. It was no Major leak, just an annoying one because I hate leaving oil stains and I also hate the idea of the car not being in good condition (over here you can get a junk title for losing lots of oil).

Clemens: Good to hear it worked for you. 5 hrs doesn't sound near long enough. In my PS case, it took about 4 days. Hasn't leaked a drop since.
