My 1997 850 AWD with a 5-speed manual has had a little ball joint issue that is going to cost me $700-800 to fix. I like the car but have been lucky enough to be able to get in to a newer vehicle. I am considering selling it for scrap but that value is quite low and it seems like a waste of a mostly good car, and something rare at that! I'd like to see it live, either on its own or as a transmission swap. The clutch was done barely 2 months ago with a resurfaced single-mass flywheel so you'd be all set there!
The car itself is a little rough around the edges as befitting its 400,000kms with some rattles and paint chips and other cosmetic blemishes but the motor and transmission especially are solid. Tires and front brakes are good, rear brakes are at 10-20% and would need to be replaced soon-ish. Transmission fluid, coolant, and diff fluids have all been done in the last month.
I'd like to get about $1500 Canadian if I'm going to have it fixed; this would make it nicely usable on its own or at the very least a transmission swap car that moves reliably under its own power. If you want to have it towed from the mechanic I'd take half that.
I'm hoping someone is willing to give it a little love! I need to decide by the end of this week.

Also there is a great Volvo used parts company called Chapman Motors on Vancouver Island. Not the cheapest but parts are always good.

Importing (and associated fees) along with distance (mainly the time to commit to such distance) and then the transport of the vehicle whether driven or hauled across the country drives this deal farther away from me.
