Fault messages, ending in dash switch off.

Post by gymnast »

Help! I am into the first six months of my eighth Volvo. A V70 SE 2004 with 118k miles on the clock. It started with a message that the ABS needed servicing. Then the reversing sensors/service. Cruise control/service. Traction control/service. Up till now no service lights. All the time the car was driving just fine. Without any warning the next message said brakes need servicing, stop safely. The dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, including service lights, The main one was that the passenger air-bag had switched off, then the dash switched off, everything blanc. The car carried on without missing a beat. A minute later, the dash came back, along with all the messages. I have tried to read other posts but you lose me with the abbreviations and buzz words. I am trying to survive on a very small pension, so a visit to a Volvo dealership is out of the question. What comes next?? Jon

Alternator?
If I paid attention to signs with little symbols I’d never find anywhere to park.

You are correct about the main dealer.
Start by the easiest to check. As above make sure the alternator charges fine and no cracked power cable. Weak power has weird manifestations on this vehicle.
Then move to CEM water ingress which is less good news because Xemodex is expensive. Look closer for any water traces over the module.
