Try moving the throttle plate by hand to see if it binds. Many of the older ones have armatures that have corroded and they rub against the coil.

Reviving an old thread.. I just recently got my hand on a yellow label ETM from a junkyard. I have a 99 v70 manual NA and I pulled this from a 00 s70 auto NA. I see in the second post in this thread precopster mentioned auto turbo will work with auto turbo NOT manual. Is this the same with NA? Will I need to find a manual donor car for the ETM?

The one I pulled has the same PN as mine ending in 347

Any help is much appreciated. If I bought a VIDA/Dice cord could I potentially flash this myself?

They are all the same part number except for NA P2s. They all supercede to the current number of 36050563 except for P2 NAs

Being a 99 it's unlikely the ETM will mate with a '00 as this year mostly had different firmware.

Plug it in and see if the whining stops after 10secs with ign in Pos II (engine unstarted)

If it continues to whine there is no mating

Thanks for the reply Mike! I actually installed it and it does not seem to work (ETS light on and limp mode)
I guess I'll be hunting for a 99 ETM from the pick and pull..

Does the car's transmission matter? or should most 99 ETMs work with my manual.

Cheers,

That is a good question.....I've never worked on a 1999 manual so I can't tell you the program versions I may have found.

If you have a Dice tool (you don't need to install Vida, just the Dice driver) I can point you to a way you can program it while it's in your car. This may save you a lot of heartache in tracking a compatible one.

Hey Mike,

My ETM troubles are starting to get a little worse and I'm starting to worry the thing will fail in the near future. I've been hoping to hold out for a junkyard SW match although I believe the chances of that are slim.

I see my options now as keeping the junkyard ETM I currently have and purchasing a DICE clone tool (china) and requesting your help with a flash. Before I order I want to make sure your offer still stands - also will the clone tools work for this? I was looking at this ebay one for 115. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Newest-Version-V ... SwiYFXEacI

From your other posts it seems as though I will need to contact Henry for his ETM SW library once the SW version in my car is identified using the tool? Is this still the case or is there some method of reading and storing my old version and flashing it to the junkyard ETM?

You don"t need to go to the bothwr of installing VIDA unless you want to notate the actual software versions for your own reference. You need the DICE usb driver to be installed as a minimum.

You plug in the old ETM and Henry can read it then he'll upload the fw file (if not already on his database)

After that you plug in the new ETM and he will download the correct firmware to it. The process takes about 40 minutes with ignition on so be sure your battery is charged fully.

Can't say if that is a good buy. Is seller's previois feedback relating to VIDA/DICE sales Ok? If so go for it.

Great! I'll look into sourcing DICE and contact Henry once I've received it.

Thanks for your help and explanation of the process.
