Volvo SC815 head unit.

Has single CD player, 15 bucks from Pic-n-pull, CD continuously ejects, ratcheting like sound as it attempts to seat CD I assume. Got it to work once sounded great. All other functions are good. Anything to do here to get this CD to work? It feels like a simple enough adjustment might do it. It also appears the 816 will drop in, and there were many more of those, so maybe another 15 bucks gets me one of those that works!

815 and 816 are basically the same, the 816 is the newer version. Fits the same as do any of the other head units from 93-00 model P80's. As mentioned previously the only different ones are the 2 with 3CD changer built in (900/901 units) as they require an extra wiring harness (obsolete) and the amp that fits under the passenger seat. There is another amp that sits behind the head unit in 850's but I have never seen one ore tried it with the SC900/901 units. If the car is fitted with the 900/901 head unit it has the harness and amp. Amp is removed by removing passenger seat, and cable needs the center console removed to get it out. The it is plug and play.

Spiting the CD out is probably the laser needs cleaned, but at the price, just return it and try another. They are usually pretty reliable.

All these 850/S70/V70/C70/S40/V40/960/S90/V90 radios are interchangeable for the most part. Like Neil said, only ones that need an amp are SC900/SC901. I got lucky and found that whole setup at the junkyard.
If you can find an SC816 easily for $15, I'd get that. If you like, you could also tear open your SC815 and see if you can fix it. Heck, get the 816 and swap the 815 faceplate over. It'll look better with the 850 dash since it's black rather than gray, plus you get the updated 816 innards.
