Im sure if you had all the right tools, took out everything in the way and had octopus arms you could totally do it.
But from all my personal experiences of trying to half-fast it is almost %100 quicker to take it out and do it right.

I did it on my 2006 V70 turbo with the alternator in the car. I don't think there was anything special to it, other than a little tedious to access. I think I slid my arm in from behind it, under the intake manifold.
