Driver Side Windshield Wiper Arm

I know we all have to find the path to Volvo enlightenment that is right for us. But for those still wrestling with this issue, if you own or can borrow a Dremel tool, it's super easy to relieve about 1mm or less from those two nubs shown at the right of Erik's photo. The result is a totally clean wipe at zero cost.

Just went and ground those nubs down a bit with the dremel. Took off a little bit at a time, checked the coverage each time.

The DS wiper is now contacting the windshield completely over its travel.


Didn't realize how bad it had become until I drove home one night last week in heavy rain; could barely see.

Any pix of the "two little bump"?

It is the two lighter colored nubs at the base of the spring-attachment-loop, down at the base of the arm. Shave some material off the top surface that is parallel to the sky:

Thanks for this. I may be misunderstanding something. Why does shaving down a bit off the top of the 2 grey bumps fix the issue? I have a Dremel

From my untrained eye, it seems that only lowers the profile, ie height/depth, of the those 2 gray bumps. What am I not understanding?

When you flip down the wiper arm, the height of the profile, determines the angle between the arm and the windshield. Note the adjacent black surfaces on the arm.

So the height of the gray nubs w/the red lines drawn on them in the pic above determines the angle between the arm and windshield?

I just realized something, should I grind down the grey nubs w/the tension springs removed? I've removed the Driver side arm before for other reasons, was not sure the best course of action here.

Yes, the height of the gray nubs determines the angle.

I have done the grinding by leaving the arm and spring in place, just flip up the arm. It may come down to the shape of the Dremel grinding bit you have, and whether or not the bit can access all of the gray surface. Don't let your grinding wander back behind the gray nubs into the black area, or the grinding will make shiny silver surfaces that show up after the wiper arm is folded back in place. No effect on function but the black arm will have a silver spot. Ask me how I know ...

I have a couple of silver spots myself (other than on my head). Just flip up and grind you'll be fine. We may be applying too much science to this.

The wiper arm nub design is bit different, but original. The two spots that needs sanding are visible, it makes sense Erik.

I will use something like this:
