98 V70 XC No start (resurrection) thread

So after talking here and talking to a few mechanics at work I decided it was time to check what I should have checked years ago. I was told by the previous owner that the pcv system was replaced. Small inspection of the fire trap with flashlight looked like he was being honest. I was wrong. I decided to take the intake manifold off to see if it had been replaced and found this. It seems that my problems began when the electrical tape had failed. Which means not only had the previous owner lied to me about pcv replacement he took time to possibly remove manifold and electrical tape a bunch of stuff.

Also found a vacuum line of some sort going into the bottom of the throttle body that was taped with electrical tape as well and was prolly not pulling proper vacuum.

Lesson of the day its hard to trust strangers.

That is a horrible POS repair. Dont worry - there is karmic justice for people like this.

Why anyone would go to the trouble of removing all that stuff and then butchering it......

He was supposed to send me a Factory O2 sensor he had on order when it came in but his excuse was that he was in and out of hospital with health problems. At this point I no longer wanted to talk or deal with him so I stopped contacting him. So the karmic justice may have dealt with him long before I discovered this problem.

Getting ready to order the PCV kit and some silicone hoses from IPD. As I have never ordered from there is it safer to just order straight from volvo or are they a great resource for the Volvo Community. If anyone with IPD is on here I mean no offense just checking before I spend 150 dollars.

Ive found IPD, eEuro, and FCP Euro all excellent with respect to Volvo parts and customer service.

So I ordered the PCV and silicone ETC kit from IPD and spoke with a gentlemen on the phone when I did it. He was great to deal with. Shipping was very fast and parts arrived perfect.

Spent two days putting the parts on (work and family obligations but got all except one hose accounted for. There is a small nipple on front of intake near the Fuel line that goes to something. I plugged it and car seems to run ok but I will have to do some more research.

Also the car now has a "dead miss" Sounds like its running on four cylinders. So hopefully get that sorted out this week some time. As I am dealing with some health issues I have to work around my work schedule and my workout schedule. I will keep updated as I move on. This thread has been invaluable and thanks everyone for there input
