But, It burns a quart every 3000 miles in urban driving.

Several posts at MVS suggest 5W40 could be a better choice. I am upgrading from conventional Pennzoil 5W30 to All Synthetic Pennzoil Euro 5W-40.

So my goal is to 1) sustain PCV; 2) oil change once a year, and not have to add an extra quart between the oil change.

Any thoughts?
Update:
Poured in the last 1L bottle Euro 5W30 -- 12th bottle since switching March 2016. Used 6L+ at the time of switch, and then 5L+ since to replace burned oil.

Engine is running great, no issues with cold weather/ smooth cold start after overnight. Engine use to shake before turning over on conventional Pennzoil 5W30.

Extreme temps are coming.

When switching to synthetic, I would replace the filter only after about 500 miles and look at it closely. If it looks pretty clogged, I'd do another filter change after 1000 miles. My engine did indeed drink quite a bit of oil when switched to synthetic for the first 5000 miles. Since then the oil level has been stable.

Oil filter? How will you stop 6L of fluid running out at 500 miles check up?

There is some oil inside the filter housing and it will spill, but most oil sits at the bottom of the oil pan. At least, that's on P2 cars, might be different on P1 models.

There is no need for that.It will not clog up.
Just perform a regular oil change....mineral old oil out-new full synth oil in.

I'm no oil expert, but if you're oil filter is "clogged" after 500 miles, you probably want to start saving for a new engine.

You can tell if it's clogged by looking at it, anymore than you tell how dirty oil is by looking for it.

Colder morning.
Cranks, starts, but engine won't stay running after a second or two.

One or two second run/stall is classic immobilizer behavior - maybe the antenna ring is bad or dirty contacts?

The other thing easy to test is bad fuel pump relay - they often act up on change in temperature. The jumper wire is the definitive test.
