No Start possibly due to bad PNP?

Post by kashee77 »

Hi
I have 98 v70 base model with a no start issue, sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't, combined with a flashing winter driving mode button down on the gear shifter trim. Today it started and the winter driving mode button stopped flashing. At first I thought it was a starter issue but now I'm wondering since the PNP switch acts like a neutral safety switch (among other things) is it possible that it is causing the no start. Also how do you get to the PNP Switch?

You are on the right track. My Platinum has a bad PNP and about 5% of the time the starter doesn't work until I row the shifter and sometimes I have to go to neutral. The flashing up arrow is also typical with a failing PNP switch.

It's right on top of the transmission.

Search the remote starter connection thread to find the bypass connector.

That is a quick test of the starter cable battery side of the circuit, plus it can bail you out when you are on the road
