Rear Wheel bearing, 2005 XC90
I am being told that me 2005 xc90 with 50k miles needs a rear wheel bearing. this seems like less than 1/3 of what its life should be. How common is this and what are the possible causes? the car is used pretty lightly by my wife--mostly sub freeway speeds and not off road or rugged use.
I am in the same boat and have just found a Volvo Service Bulleting indicating that this is known and common problem in 2003-2007 XC90's. Tell your Service Mgr about bulleting: TNN-77-16-2006-04-21. I don't kow the terms of the repair but it covers Loud/Failed Rear Wheel Bearings and indicates they may be difficult to remove.
I'm off to the dealer to diagnose and replace - I am counting on Warranty as I am under 36k miles but over 3 years.
Good Louck

A tip of my hat to Farrell Volvo in Southboro MA.
Even though I didn't ahve and appointment, they diagnosed teh issue and got both rear wheel hub/bearing assemblies replaced on Monday.
Covered the replacement under warranty (Appropriate).

I have a 2004 XC90 with 46k miles. I have had the rear wheel bearings replaced twice (once about a year ago and once a few weeks ago). Both times the dealer did the work under warranty; however, the dealer also did not know of a broader issue.
