'04 S60 - Diagnosing No Start

May look at an '04 S60 with a no start condition. I know the basics -- fuel, spark, compression. Are there more likely causes of no start with these cars than the P80s? For the P80s recently I've seen a lot of bad ECTs causing no or difficult start conditions. Are there any high percentage no start causes among the '04 S60s?

I'll check battery voltage, connections and grounds. It is a turbo (with which I have precious little experience). Are there no start causes unique to turbos?

Do the P2s have a similar/equivalent to the fuel pump relay on the P80s that go bad and cause a no start? If so, do the P2s use the same fuel pump relay as the P80s or is there a fuel control module mounted in the rear passenger side wheel well?

no start is not a common issue with P2. PEM does corrode on models with metal gas tank. other than that I would think cem and perhaps fuel tank level?

Is the CEL illuminated?

Any OBD II codes?

Although not perfectly accurate, an old tire gauge can be used to sample fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the injector rail. If you have somewhere around 36 psi at the rail, you can probably eliminate fuel delivery issues as a possibility.

Pop the upper T-belt cover off and you can see if the belt broke.

P2 fuel management is completely different - the fuel pump is controlled by the ECU to keep pressure correct on the fuel rail, monitored by a fuel pressure sensor on the end of the fuel rail.

CEM is Central Electronic Module
PEM is Pump Electronic Module

Everything got a module when Volvo went P2.

There may be another version of this too.

Going to check out this ride today (perhaps). Owner seems not too knowledgeable. Sounds like a young guy who isn't mechanically inclined and doesn't know where to start on diagnosis/repairs. I noticed in photos there's a chrome trim strip on top of the body molding. Does that give a hint as to trim level? Seller says its a non-turbo, but I'm not sure he's correct.

Top P2 no start causes off the top of my head...

Low battery voltage
Bad ignition coils
Fuel pressure regulator (bad fuel delivery - all electronic, no vacuum hoses like P80s)

Didn't say in the ad, but looked at photos more closely. It is an S80, about which I know nothing. No even going to look. . .
