Does a 2002 S80 require special steering fluid from the dealer or would something from the local parts store do?
What type of parts store fluid would be best please?
Thanks

I'd call the local Volvo dealer and ask. My 2000 Volvo S80 requires genuine Volvo power steering fluid. According to the dealer, some of the specs in the manual were incorrect.

You will find most, if not all, manufacturers specify "genuine (Volvo, Ford …or whatever manufacturer) lubricants". That is nonsense designed to get you into the dealer service department. Every power steering unit I know of uses Dexron/Mercon or whatever the current ATF spec terminology is. It is also sold as "power steering fluid" and is the same as ATF but may lack some of the additives needed in an automatic transmission application.

Check the owners manual . Most liekly Pentosin CHF 11S which has been redesigned and improve and now CHF 202. Oreillys has both and both will work CHF 11S is greenish. 202 is blueish and supposed to work better in very cold climates.
