2004 V70 2.4

Looking for a new car, found a one owner 2004 V70 2.4 fwd with sunroof and automatic, car has 147k miles, body is in near perfect condition. Car has a P0192 ( fuel pressure sensor), alarm service required light on and driver seat leather has a hole on the side. As I read, these car seem pretty reliable, and not too bad on fuel. What kind of mpg should I expect, fuelly says around low 30, are these numbers realistic? What should I be aware of??

I am a 20+ years vw mechanic, and my wife have a xc90 V8, so I played a bit on her's.r Am hesitating between this and a jetta wagon tdi. I know the tdi might cost more in maintenance, but I have a hard time forgetting the 50+ mpg I used to get from a tdi.

Fps is very common and easy repair, look for Bosch, turbo and n/a have different numbers. Siren module can be disconnected or replaced. 150000 miles is a lot of miles for this car driven in Montreal. despite the looks it's surely quite a bit tired. I get 18 mpg in city 38 on highway.

Yes 38 on highway, but this is the non turbo engine. The turbo gets lower mpg

Uhhhhhh, OK. Personally I find the old fashion "miles travelled divided by gallons burned" to be a bit more telling. In our case it's about 20/27 for the turbo and 21/29 for the non-turbo. Of course the highway values are measured at around 75-82 mph.

Indeed, 75 mph will make a difference. My value is at @ 65mph. As for the non turbo, there is a significant issue with the intake air thermostat, maybe you are already aware of it. When it fails, it really drops the mpg but only on highway by a good 5 mpg or more.

I wasn't aware on an inherent problem with the intake air thermostat (temp sensor?). Do you know there are any temp vs resistance specs available? I have a Haynes book but not at hand right now.

Here's what it looks like. The part is not available at Volvo, unless buying the whole air box unit

The thermostat metal pin should open about 1/2" at room temp, and almost fully retract in freezing temps. Usually it gets stuck fully closed.

I'm away from my 2003 V70 NA right now but will take a look at it when I get the opportunity. However the last time I had the intake duct off I don't recall seeing the flapper shut. I think I would have noticed and questioned it if it was closed. Thanks.
