Wiper Delay Time Adjustment

Hello there,

This morning i had to run out for a few, and when i came back it was raining, but only a very light rain so i needed to use the wiper setting that comes on for a second, then shuts off for maybe 3 seconds, then back on, then off, then on again, etc. The delay setting did not seem to coincide with the level of rainfall per unit time, but i did not know how to adjust it. In my old Hyundai i could turn the knob and make it delay maybe 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, etc., whatever was appropriate. In this v70 1998 i did not find a knob like that.

So the question is, is there a way to adjust the wiper timing and if so, where can i find that?
[If not, is there a way to modify it to make it adjustable ?]

The delay is fixed, unless you get a different relay #99 from a vw or one from IPD

As Robert describes in his Video: it´s just a 1 Minute Job. Pull the old one, put the new one in. You will Need a new or used VW 99 relay and a flashlight/mobile phone to see which one you pull. I didn´t have to pull any other relay. If you want to got he junkyard route, VW started using the 99 relay on third gen golfs / jettas in the early 90ies.

Now just one more little question...

Where would i find this relay in the v70 1998 Volvo so could examine it?
Also, is it hard to get to?
I looked under the hood but only the big main relays seem to be there.

It´s under the dash on the inside of the car. put the left knee on the ground, then try to get your head and arm in the driver´s foot area and use your flashlight to find the relay kinda above the release lever for the hood. it is one of the many relays up there. pull it out, put the new one in. you don´t need to remove anything to reach it (maybe push the carpet/insulation to gain access). it is just quite high up in there.

Ok thanks, i'll check that out very soon. I'll see if i can get a few pictures of that too so other people will know where it is and how to get at it.

I guess this relay has 5 contacts? That's a little unusual as most relays only have four contacts, two for the internal relay switch contacts and two for the coil, so i wonder what the fifth external contact is for?

You think you could show me the link to the relay itself? That would help a lot.

I went out to the car this morning and forgot to take a pic of the relay because i had a lot of other things going on today. I was checking the voltage though that we had talked about in another thread with a new meter i got at a Radio Shack that i found still open in Somerset. It looked pretty good although not ideal at 12.22 volts before starting the car then 13.8v after starting. I would prefer a higher voltage after starting though. That 12.22v is after 2 days of sitting in the driveway with the engine off the whole time.
