P0101 and P2188 codes

Post by hu5ker555 »

CEL comes on periodically with these two codes. Then it goes away, then comes back. Car is running OK, steady idle, good power.
Suggestions? I already cleaned the MAF, but the codes eventually come back.

What car is it?

Cleaning MAF does nothing, you need a new one. Car runs fine, because ECU sees it can't rely on MAF sensor reading and switches to preprogrammed values. It injects more gas to keep cat.converter cool.

Sorry...2005 S60 2.5T
Do I need a special tool to remove the security torx screws?
Any suggestions on where to get a new MAF?
My next step was to smoke test it with a cigar.

or, if you like blue boxes

You can also start with a used MAF.

A hole in intake would cause an uneven idling and a LEAN fuel mixture.

Thanks for your responses. So, a P2188 code would not be caused by a vacuum leak?

I saw some MAF's available on ebay for about $20. Maybe I'll start there.

Could it be a dirty throttle body?

P2188 is a too rich air-fuel mixture, not lean. Vacuum leak == lean mixture.
