Looking to purchase

Post by olszewskisp »

I could use some advice. I am looking to purchase a Volvo and fell in love with the s60 for a daily driver instead of my Jeep Wrangler. I found a post on craigslist and would like to know if it a good deal and how much it would cost to fix.

Any information would be helpful.

At a dealer that would be a $2,000 plus repair due to either a faulty ECM (engine control module) in the engine bay or a faulty CEM (central electronic module) located above the steering column.

There are companies other than Volvo that can assist with much better pricing such as XeModex or here on the forum a guy named Henry with username Doublebug.

In any case either Henry or XeModex would need to see a list of fault codes produced at a Volvo dealer to be certain of the diagnosis.

As much as love these cars, I wouldn't touch it.

Don't touch unless you know how to fix ut and you are not looking for a daily driver. 2001-2002 were the most problematic models, transmission, throttle body, etc

I'd get it for parts only.

$1200? That's not enough for any car.

Unless you are a DIYer, always keep $1K for emergency repairs. Cars after warranty can be fun to maintain. I do not have a car loan payment for more than to 8 years -- love it!

I know prices are much higher in the US, but with that amount I'd probably look for a Toyota Echo (first gen), or an older Buick from an elder who put low miles on it.
