1995 Volvo 850 T-5R manual transmission swap.

Post by rspi »

I'm about to do a manual transmission swap in my 1995 T-5R wagon. Had a transmission from a '97 850 but sold it and got one from a '95 850 so I wouldn't have to do anything to the speed sensor set up.

I was trying to make sure I had an M56 H from a '95 but I don't know which I have. The '95 car that I have had the transmission replaced about 18,000 miles ago. I may have an L because the shop wasn't sure. No tag on the bottom.

When I get done I'll post any MPG improvements and highway cruising RPM differences.

Shift the transmission in first gear then turn the input shaft then count the turns of the differential then calculate to get the gear ratio.

I think I have less MPG after my manual swap because the auto is geared taller. But it's so worth it.

I'm excited. So much so that I had to take a trip to the ER after I pulled the manual from the '95 NA. LOL

Use a new clutch master cylinder- I used a pre-owned one and had to replace it- a pain of biblical proportions
