Stuck wheel bearing volvo v70 (front-right)

Post by rob6523 »

After loosening all bolts is impossible to remove the old wheelbearing.
Hitting the wheelbearing with all kinds of hammers doesn't make it move.....

Anyone with a smart solution that I can do on my own as I cannot go anywhere because the car doesn't run on 3 wheels and I have no workshop nearby....

1:1 ratio blend of 100% acetone and dextron atf.

Find an inexpensive spray bottle to pour in the mix that you will be using all of for this repair. Shake well before heavily spraying the hub assembly. Let it sit for 10 minutes then spray it heavily again. Give it 10 more minutes prior to one more dousing.

Have a whack at the hub assembly using your sledge hammer. Apply open-flame heat as needed.

Dispose the bottle IAW local ordinances.

Bad news, now that you've smash it, you have to replace it, the plate where the wheel lugs attach is bent and the wheel lugs will loosen up while driving.

Run and rent/buy a large puller. Took me 2h+ to kick it with a heavy hammer. These things are seized solid by deep corrosion between the steel plate of the bearing housing and the alloy of the spindle. I also see it's a 2007, when you turn the bearing by hand does it feel rough? I pulled mine and it was actually good. Bad bearing is not common on the S60/V70.

All that. heat and big puller is how we removed one. We bought the puller at harbor, a 4 jaw, still took some cranking to get it off.

I couldn't login a few days.

I managed to get it loose and replace it!
A combination of the acetone/atf fluid and a little heat made it come loose!
Thanks for the advice guys!
The bearing was already bad and caused a nasty sound while driving, so I had to replace it anyway.
