Re: 2005 S60 ABS Pump Motor Replacement

I just spoke with a tech at xemodex and he said the same thing; it's a dust seal and should be OK to reinstall it and tighten it down. I was worried it had fluid moving around in it.

Ok, well, I have no idea what is going on with the car. installed a used ABS pump motor and kept the xemodex BCM installed. got everything hooked back up, then got just a few codes (listed below). As soon as I hook up the battery, the ABS unit starting buzzing, which is the same thing it was doing before I started messing with any of this. Anyone have suggestions here? Short of getting the CEM checked, I am at a loss.

BCM-0070 Pump motor supply voltage faulty signal
CEM-1A5F Communication with BCM control module Signal missing

After I drove it around for a little while, it was still acting up. Another code showed up (below) and the brake failure safe safely light displayed, as well as Transmission service required message.

CEM-1A61 communication with TCM control module Signal missing

Beeeeeeautiful pics!! I tend to agree with abscate. As long as the pump ends up at the same overall height you should be fine.

A quote from my epic ABS pump failure on my 2001 XC70 post: " Finally I fitted the replacement ABS pump only to find the same error: ABS pump failure. Looked carefully at the fuse locations to find that one of the ABS positions was vacant and had no 30A fuse!! Position 19 now filled with a fuse and all is fine"

How is fuse 19 and the other ABS fuse (location should be listed on the fuse cover?

Is the problem that the seal now appears too big for the hole or is it too small? What is the actual issue?

As the ABS pump is not available separately from the block unit at the dealer I don't think you'll find much info on the splitting/reassembly procedure as you're pretty much in no man's land there.

I have pulled Fuse 19 (labeled ABS) in the engine bay and the buzzing noise stops from around the ABS pump area. I checked that one and Fuse 14 (also in engine bay and labeled ABS) and they both appear to be fine. I am still getting a bunch of DTCs. The noise in the ABS area gets louder when the dash message 'abs/anti-skid service required' displays. I'll try and get a video posted of it as its pretty obnoxious.

here is a link to the buzzing sound. Thoughts? Maybe I'll swap out batteries from our VR and see if that does anything.

I'm still getting the BCM-0070 DTC.

Hard to say what it is. When the noise appears if you place your hand on the ABS pump does it vibrate?

It could be the brake booster motor just near the air cleaner (underneath)

Also if you pull fuse 19 does the buzzing stop?

If I pull Fuse 19, the buzzing does stop; however, I can't seem to get the codes cleared even after that. What does removing fuse 19 and the buzzing noise stopping tell me?

Just swapped out the battery from our VR for a test. Before that, I put 2, new 30-amp fuses in 14 and 19 (both ABS) under the hood to see if they may be bad. reconnected battery. buzzing noise is immediate, still with no key. I put my hand on the ABS pump motor and could feel it vibrating.

After connecting the new battery and turning key to position 2, pulled codes, and then reset them as in VIDA (start car, idle above 1,500 rpm, turn it off, restart and let idle for 20 seconds). Guess what, no BCM-0070 DTC, but some different codes that I had not seen before related to the CEM and ECM. Could I possibly have a bad CEM? Codes are below for reference.

CEM-1A61 Communication with TCM control module Signal missing
ECM-A00B Transmission control module (TCM) communication - Faulty signal
CEM-60A1 - Door unlocked , left rear Signal too high
CEM-1A5F Communication with BCM control module Signal missing
CEM-E000 control module communication Faulty signal

Just wanted to make sure that you identified the source of the buzzing.

With these new CEM codes the mystery is starting to unravel. It's looking more like a CEM failure now.

Shipping out the CEM for scan and possible repair. I will update this thread with progress for reference.
