Delta Links: Easier to install in subzero temperatures?

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Hey everyone, doing some work on my brother's V70 and was crawling underneath his car checking out the goods. His delta links are shot. And his subframe bushings (which I'll take care of in the Spring...oh boy!)... Anyhow, these Delta links are compressed and the rubber's all wrinkly. There are also weird clunky noises coming from the rear over bumps. They need to be replaced.

I know guys sometimes put upper torque bushings in the freezer to help with installation. So I'm thinking, putting a delta link in the freezer and installing during the winter, this has got to make removal and installation easier, no? Yes, it'll make life "harder." But as long as installation is easier, that's all that matters, no?

Has anyone done delta links in the driveway during the winter? Would there be any noticeable benefits?

Take it from a guy who lives in Alaska!!! I much rather struggle a bit in the spring or summer time.

PUT the links in the freezer and install on the hottest day of the year, I find they tap in fairly easily with a bit of lubricant and in sand the inside of the arm to make sure they are smooth

I think the metal will shrink more than the rubber but it won't be easier in winter, especially in driveway.

I got really lucky as my deltas just crumbled when I started in on them, I didn't even use the tool.

Hmmm, OK guys. Thanks for the direction! I didn't think about the metal shrinking...

I'll wait until the Spring/Summer. Hopefully by then they'll fall out!
