Instrument Panel Bulb Replacement 2001 S60

Post by fgreynolds »

I have a bulb out in the instrument cluster on my 2001 S60. How do you get to the bulbs to replace one? Can the instrument cluster be removed? Thanks.

This has to be one of the easiest to get out.

Switch off ignition and remove the key. Wait 1 minute after removing the key before going any further.
Remove the surround for the combined instument panel by pulling it straight out.
Remove the 4 screws.
Remove the connector.
Remove the combined instrument panel.

Install in reverse order.

Bill.

Hi Bill,

Will the process you outlined for a S60 2001 work for a XC V70 2001? It appears the perimeter shroud, which surrounds the instrument panel, can be removed with a even tug as clips seem to be holding it in place.

Appreciate the insight.
Chris

Yes, same for XC70. To facilitate removal of the instrument cluster you need to lower the steering wheel and remove the top plastic and rubber cover from the steering column, it just pulls off. Then remove the 4 cluster holding screws, and you can unplug the single plug in the back. Not easy to find the little instrument lights, they are actually of 3 different wattage, depending on their location, as designated by the different colors of their plastic housing.
I replaced the lower ones with the highest wattage variety to see the digits and numbers better on sunny days.

Hi Eldad, I have removed the top plastic/rubber cover above the steering wheel = real easy as you said and thanks.

But cannot see the 4 cluster holding screws? Where will I find them? I see two nut/bolt type but looks like they are securing something else to the steering wheel. Please advise and pics if you have them

Many thanks,

Michael

Bill,

Thanks mate and got your email too. Am glad this is simple enough as the other instructions were for the previous model and it looked complicated! Thanks again. Cheers
