Turn signals don't work.. but hazards do?
Hello recently purchased a 2004 XC90 t6 , replaced the head gasket and it's running great . Only problem is the turn signals aren't working. Checked the hazards and they work fine. Also if it helps the reverse lights work and the windshield wipers work.. not sure if it's a flashing relay or a cem?.. if any one has had this problem or can help me I'd reallly appreciate it ! Thanks

Its important to remember that everything goes through the CEM. When you toggle the turn stalk, it sends a signal to the CEM via the CAN Bus to turn on the signal, and the CEM actually energizes the circuit.
If the flashers work but not the turn signal, then it sounds like it's the input side (turn signal stalk) not the output side (CEM and power side to the lights) that's the issue.

Hey Roger , pretty sure your right it seems to be the input side .. how would I go about fixing the turn signal stalk by chance ? Thanks so much for the help I'm kinda lost and not so familiar with this /:

Hi Josh,
It's pretty straightforward to remove:
- Ignition Off
- Remove the upper and lower steering column cover (3 screws from underneath). You may need to manipulate the column tilt to move it into a position where the parts of the cover just slide out, but they will eventually do that and slide out.
- Remove 2 screws holding the switch in
- Remove the rubber boot
- Pull the switch straight out. (Be careful of the pins - they are pretty fragile.)
You can have a go at cleaning it if you want. I just replaced mine when it acted up. I found a price of either $69 or $91 (plus shipping) depending on exactly which one you need. (Dealer part.)
Installation is reverse of removal.
Hope this helps!

Hey roger awesome tutorial everything you said was spot on.. the contacts looked a little grimes so I used an eraser to clean them up. Looked shiny once I put everything back together but unfortunately, this did not solve the problem /: I was so sure this would work to the way the contacts looked but when I took it apart it seemed to have a oil like substance around the motherboard / rubber boot. Not sure if this would cause it to no longer work .. may need to buy a new one ? Also I have a srs airbag urgent warning (has been on since I've owned it) I've researched this and may be a bad DIM? Really not so sure, on a low budget so if you know which part I could purchase / fix next please any suggestions would help me as I feel I'm back to square 1 .. thanks !!!

Might not be the exact same failure scenario but some more examples (some with visuals) here:

I had a problem with the turn signal stalk on my '05 in 2010, would work sporadically when signaling left (signaling right worked just fine). I replaced the stalk outright versus attempting repair.
As far as the SRS light being on, entirely possible someone did some module level work on the car without removing power and the error got triggered. Easiest just to get VIDA/DICE on the car to reset the light. Also possible that other non-Volvo tools can do this reset (I'm not aware of any detail on this) but VIDA/DICE is what I use.
Good luck!
