2005 v70 dignosed as bad motor, no oil pressure. 300k. I was given price of $3300 total to put a 76k engine in. Still shopping around. I'm in Florida. If anyone could advise on place to get engine? I want to try and get her fixed up. Especially if I can drive a few more years. I could just put the money toward another car, but the body is great and I love the safety and comfort of this car. What other Volvo models and years have the same engone? Should I stick to the same year and model for engine? It is a 2.4 non turbo v70. What is a normal range price for the labor on engine replacement? Thanks for your help!

The engine is B5244S, it was installed in a bunch of models through the whole P2 platform life span: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_Mod ... ine#B5244S
The most bulletproof 5-cylinder engine Volvo ever made, but it still requires a regular and quality oil changes.

The 6th and 7th digits of your VIN number indicate the engine code. For instance, my 2003 V70 NA is 61:
61 = B5244S S60/V70 2.4 FWD
I'm not sure if your 2005 carries exactly the same engine code or not. Hopefully there are a lot of S60's out there with the same engine as yours which would open up the market quite a bit for you to go shopping.

3 years for $3000 is much cheaper than anything new, and beats a lot of used cars!
The price is about right but there are always uncertainties with a used engine that you can't really 'insure' against
I have that same engine in my 2005 and it is a dreamy, quiet, powerful piece of work that gives me 32 mph highway...insane..

I would just keep all sensors and accessories for spare or just in case the computer won't like the sensors coming with the replacement engine.
I feel $3300 is on the steep side, the garage is making good money here but most Volvo specialists are like such. The labor should be under $1000 (not at the main dealer) and the engine under $1000 as well. Given the car mileage, I'd rather try to find an engine off Ebay for under $1000, may also look at some scrapyards near your location on local.google.com. With a replacement engine, I would remove the oil pan and check the PCV system before installing, wouldn't be surprised what killed your engine was a clogged PCV. Keep your transmission if it works well.
I'd keep in mind that at 300k a Volvo starts breaking parts so expenses may go up in the next 100k miles or so so the rest of the car might not go much past 400k.

$1000 for an engine swap? pulling one, replacing another, as well as dealing with engine and shipping - that would be pretty light for a shop rate

It’s an old thread but $900 labor to pull and install an engine is way under actuals.
Remember in Canada, labor rates are much cheaper than the US ( quote upthread from
