water only with no antifreeze mixed and a nice stretch of freezing temps. If that has happened, it has a great chance to allow that water to freeze. Starting the car for the first time once the water has slushed or frozen over will enable those fins to become stressed in the process.
ugh smh 850 Turbo fridge

My guess is the bearing has worn and allowed the shaft to free play and score the case

High mileage, I'm guessing, 150k plus?

As mentioned, worn and the tension of the belt caused it to bind or pull out and scrape the housing. The blades are not bent.

Wow...that is one, old WP! Also looks like it was fed a 100% diet of hard, tap water.

The blades do not look like Aisin (I may be wrong).
I suspect this is an aftermarket WP, built in a country where you can find delicious Dim-Sum...LOL.

I suspect the bent blades are part of the design. But the gouged housing is due to worn bearing/bushing. I *just* had a water pump fail and it took out my timing belt: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79764&start=10#p429710.
