P0202 - Mechanic disabled Cyl 2?

Post by adkvolvonoob »

Hi!

Just finishing up a valve job on this 1999 V70 Turbo AWD I got this summer. Cyl 2 had bad exhaust valves and previous owner said that his mechanic disabled #2 so it wouldn't dump raw fuel into the cylinder and ruin the cat.

So... assuming there is nothing broken, where would I look to see where it could have been disabled? Where is the most convenient place to do that outside of disconnecting the cable at the injector?

Thanks!

Jeff

Just the connector at that injector.
'99 should have coil packs over the spark plugs.Check if he disconnected it for some reason....and that's it.

Injector connector would be the easiest way to disable the cylinder.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll be doing some troubleshooting of the fuel rail today as well as moving coil packs around.

When I tore into it to get the had sent out (bad exhaust valves, same cyl...makes sense if the mechanic disabled fuel to that cyl) I saw that the connector on that injector was still connected. It's where I would have disabled it. Will also look into testing voltage at that connector and maybe sticking an LED in the connector, as well as testing the spray patterns of all the injectors.

Disconnect and look in the connector to see if he released one of the leads and pushed it up. Next would be cutting the wire in the harness.

Did some troubleshooting...

All injectors are firing. I cleared the codes and that hasn't shown up yet

Moved to the coil packs - found Cyl 1&2 are not firing. cleaned common ground point, swapped packs to working cyl - doesn't seem to be a problem with them, swapped spark plugs, failure stays at 1&2. Now looking to see if I can get any info from the connectors at those coils, test grounds, etc.

Have you tried switching the connectors on the first and second coils? They look like they'd be hard to mix up, but it's a lot easier than you would think. Ask me how I know...

The colour coding for the coil pack cars is in the VRD and also in my 1999 maintenance log, too

That's right, I remember you mentioning that on my thread. The diagrams are out there!
