Things are shaping up, head at machine shop, only thing I am able to use off of the non turbo head is some valves.
The vvt machining is the main diff on those heads.
Anyone need an 01 2.4 non turbo head, I will sell cheap, missing a few valves.

Tonight I will rebuild turbo with the kit.

Need to clean throttle body, still need thermostat

Head should be done tomorrow, will mount ex manifold onto it then mount head.

I have seem people putting copper on new gaskets, never did that before, suggestions?

Ok turbo flange broke while my son hit too hard, np ordered a rebuild-able core, so will use best parts from both and do it.

Got thermostat, had to bit bullet and buy whole housing with thermostat, Europe has them alone, not us that I can find

Head is torqued down, machine shop broke the aperture on cam, get it today I hope

Double check that you can use NA valves in a turbo. I thought turbo valves were sodium filled? Unverified

Check part numbers

The saga continues, had 50 deg today, was able to get stuff done.
Got ex manifold on and torqued down.
Was able to put the sealant on the head and cover, installed the cams, with locking tool on, then locked down cover and put all 40 plus bolts in.
Here is the crazy thing, before locking down the cams I was about to just put cams with marks facing up and realized the marks are wrong.
I went back to you tube and verified the locking tool procdure, when it is locked, neither cam mark was up as it should be.
So left it locked, put cover a seals in and bolted it down.

Does anyone know why someone would pull the sprockets and put them both 90 degrees off?
Is there some other brand car that does this and they were doing what they know?
I will put the back correctly before belt goes on.

KJ - I dont know abt S60's so question I have is Are they the spring-loaded VVT? Only thing I can think of. On the C70 VVT with gear would rotate clockwise abt 45 degrees to hit my marks. If cams are Horizontal and locked by tool, the marks should align... right? 90 degrees is far.

so I was able to get the non vvt sproket correct, moved the intake sprocket ccw 1 hole, left one is vvt, started to loosen torx yesterday.
Sprocket move one position did not move it enough. I was about to just mark the sprocket with a pen and leave as is.
Not sure why anyone would ever do this!

appreciate the advice, but locked and turned cw it did not go more than 45 deg, moved spocket one hole cw and still ng.
I just turned it to stop, marked the notch that aligned with plastic cover notch
Should be all good.

OK was able to get out today and turn the motor with a wrench, turned nice and smooth and no problems. Will be tightening up the turbo oil lines tomorrow and giving it a spin with the starter, Prob put new timing belt in. I have old one in so I did not over stress the new one while getting cams setup.

OK, stopping point, water line on my turbo where different that old on.
Ordered a fitting kit to relocate them to rubber hoses, may only do one.

OK, resolved turbo line issues, got oil lines all hooked up and did compression check.
#1 cylinder was low, 30lbs, oil did not raise it
Sprayed wd40 into it and it was spraying back out of intake valve, call machine shop, he said if it ran it may blow out the crap and work ok.
Was not going to put in the extra hours so I removed head and had him redo cyl #1 and test
Have it back now, he said reuse the head gasket, I do not think so, maybe reuse bolts?
Let me know what you guys think, I know 1 time stretch bolts.
Looks like another $100 for gasket and bolts, let me know what you think the risk is
