Hi Folks
yesterday I successfully replaced my fuel filter but I had a follow up question.
When I went to pull on the quick connect fittings I thought they felt a little strange. It turns out whoever replaced the last one had wrapped each quick connector in tape. When I took it off it felt and looked like regular beige masking tape but I can't imagine that would have held up for very long.
I had no fuel leaks so this wasn't some lame attempt at patching a leak. The only conclusion I could come up with is that the person has put the tape on to keep the road grime off the connector and off of the two filter nipples.
They had taped it such that there was a collar of tape that extended and covered the area where the filter plugged into the fuel line.
Is this required and has anyone ever done thing themselves?
As I said, I think it was done to keep the grime off the connectors themselves.

I haven't done that or run into it on the several P80 cars I have swapped fuel filters on. But sounds reasonable enough, certainly cheap and easy to do.
