Scanners

Post by Jaguar xjs »

Ok gent, I've read 100's of threads on scanners.

If I buy a MaxiDiag Elite 802 for about $200 am I buying what I need to diagnose and turn off the CE lights on a 96 850? I'm a tool junkie so the price dose not scare me off.

If all you need to do is pull P codes and clear the CEL then you can do that with the cheap Harbor Freight scanner but it has no real time monitoring like the better scanners have.

I don't believe that model will get you the other goodies like SRS and ABS though.

That scan tool won't be all that useful. Mainly because the older Volvo obd port doesnt output codes from all the modules. An inexpensive DIY tool using a LED bulb and a wire pins is easier to extract codes than that tool. (If u aren't familiar check the forum) otherwise that tool is overkill

I actually own that exactly scan tool (great for newer cars and Volvo's) as well as a launch tablet with bidirectional capabilities

The AUTEL 500 series on up will get you SRS and ABS reset function.

For a moment, that bad 1970s movie came to mind...

I keep this in the armrest https://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan-M ... =autel+obd to reset that P0455 or P0442 that pops up every once in a while.

And I have a Matco (MD1400) branded version of this Actron scanner https://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9580A-E ... ctron+obd2 that I purchased on ebay for $60, it does diagnostic stuff.

Though, none of those reset the service or ABS lights... For the Service light, I have a tool like this that I purchased off of eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-in-1-Service ... 50&vxp=mtr.

I think the three tools came out to about $100 altogether.
