I can only say that volvospeed & swedespeed can provide you the info you might want because they are more like performance forums.

All 850R cars came with orange injectors, same as on any HPT 850.
What happens by putting in whites without changing the tune, is the engine runs too rich. No more, no less.
The white injectors flow more fuel per unit time than the car expects, dumping in too much fuel, so the engine runs rich. The oxygen sensors pick this up and tell the ECU, which compensates by adjusting fuel trim (LTFT). Likely the LTFT adjustment is the "settling in" that shaker_chi is talking about. But it's a good thing, you wouldn't want the car running rich all the time. Think poor fuel economy and burnt valves.
To get any possible benefit from larger injectors, you need a tune that is matched to them, as shaker_chi alluded to. I've got whites in my R but that's only so I don't have to mess with the m4.4 tune, which expects whites. Not because they give any performance improvement.

It may not be how others see it, but the way I would explain it is by the following example:
The FPR might be the Captain (major component) that baselines the enrichment regarding fueling from the "mechanical" side. After that part being the liaison, the injector's play as team players the coach (ECM - computer) overseeing the efficiencies. The controller learns the parameters based off the interim sampling data (STFT) to set the future expected efficiencies (LTFT) .

The NA injectors are different, that color is referred to as yellow. My 4.4 NA has the yellows, I bet yours does too. The HPT injectors are a dark orange.misha wrote:.erikv11 wrote:All 850R cars came with orange injectors, same as on any HPT 850...

For 850s:
NA yellow
HPT orange
LPT red
For 98-00:
NA yellow (1998-00)
LPT red (1998, not actually sure if it changed in 99 or 00, no one pays much attention to the LPTs
HPT T5 white (1998)
HPT T5 blue (1999-00; in 99 the T5 FPR went to a higher pressure too; blues are actually the same as whites)
HPT V70R green (2000)

Im running the ipd stage 1 tune, which doesn't include extra fueling for these whites, and yes it runs rich until it goes into open loop, then you get SOME benefit. But at WOT the computer only shoots out 280 cc... to make full use of the whites im going to an ARD tune soon after the downpipe is on

Orange injectors, 15g automatic 850R . I have been using an Ipd stage 1 tuned ecu that was pulled from my 95 turbo
I have swapped to whites with the manifold and plan on going to an Ard tune to account for all these mods, maimly the injectors. Mpg is marginally better even without the right tune
