Hey Everyone,
New to the site as i just picked up a 2005 XC90. The first thing i did was buy a new case for the remote/key and of course i destroyed the chip when i was taking the housing apart. The fob still works (unlocks/locks car) but i cannot start the vehicle now with that key. Is there anywhere that i can just buy a chip or transponder? i REALLY dont want to go to the dealer and pay $300+ for the whole remote etc.
Any help would be great.
Cheers,
Matthew

Yes you can. But you need to program this NEW chip to your car. For this there are some variants:
1. Go to dealer
2. Get data from flash memory your CEM and use special tool for programing chip to CEM
3. Send your CEM + ECM + key to service (ebay)
4. Send CEM only to service and buy DiCE for online programing (ebay)
5. Last method only online (not necessary send modules), but it for repair services only.

Thanks Yagger, i have a place near where i live that can program the chip for a very reasonable cost, thats why all i want is to buy just a chip/transponder. Also i do not know what "CEM" "ECM" or "DICE" stands for.
