V70 Transmission Rebuilt No Movement No Gears

Post by Kaweh »

Hello, this is my first post! I have decided to rebuild me 2001 Volvo V70 FW Turbo. It's my first tranmission but not my first time working on a car. So i rebuilt it fully (all seals, clutches, valve body, etc.). Put it back in, put oil in of course, fired it up. I have no leaks, I had a snap on computer attached and so i have no codes, there is no grinding noise and here it comes..... the transmission does nothing. I can hear small amounts of rpm changes when i change gears. The front of the car is off the ground, I haven't put the brakes and wheels back on. I tested the oil ports on the transmission they all seem to have oil flowing through them. I put a gauge on the main lube shaft but didn't get response at all. But I didn't reve it up too much. I put it in a new torque converter as well and it is attached to the flywheel. So i have no movement at all. Does anyone know what other tests i can do before dropping the transmission and subframe again? Thanksf or your thoughts!!

Are both axles in? If one is out, the car won't move.

Did you air check the trans while it was on the bench with the valve body off? The only thing to do now is to check line pressure at the test port. Testing lube pressure won't tell you much because it is usually substantially less than line or apply pressure. Also, I recall a post several months back about being sure that the oil pump is properly engaged to the converter or else major bad things can happen.

Just something to check ^. Once I bought a reman axle that didn't have a circlip (or channel), and it popped out of the transmission a day later, just slightly, and it felt like the transmission had given up. If I hadn't been working in that area of my 850, it would have taken a very long time to figure it out.

The axles are in. They are the original. What did you want me to check?

I was just expounding on my prior post. It sounds like you've made sure it's not axles, so disregard my posts.

Did you seat the torque converter properly onto the transmission?

Yes, it's fastened and I hear no unusual noises.

I have read that if the torque converter is 1/2" off, it will stop it from working.
