Our car is Stage-0 right now. Only suspension components that need to be replaced are the rear end links and trailing arms (which aren't even Stage-0 things, right). She drives true on the highways. We've gone as fast as 80mh. But my preferred highway speed is more 65mph. (Now you can see why I'm such an N/A guy, right?) Turns are great. The car is everything we've wanted. Alignment has been holding for almost six months. I "float" over all the speed bumps in Queens (that all Gabriel ride life!!) -- no weird creaks, clunks, or noises.
But...
If we slam on the brakes, there's a KER-FLUNK. If I gun it from first-gear, there's a KER-FLUNK, and yesterday, after a 100 mile drive and as I was backing into a parking spot, there was the dreaded KER-FLUNK again. (I had to reverse into the parking spot kinda fast because there was a car eyeing it!)
- All new motor mounts (side is FEBI, front is Cortico, rear is FEBI) all new subframe bushings (VOLVO XC90s).
- Transmission mount is new and it's a VOLVO one.
- No "whining" bearing noises. (If the passenger pushes the dash a little the car is whisper quiet on the highway...)
- Bosch Quietcast rotors and brake pads all around.
- Febi control arms.
- Gabriel Readystruts, no play in springseats.
- Power steering doesn't leak. (Oil leaks, but that's from a crappy crush washer...)
- Passenger side axle is rusty NAPA axle, unknown age.
- Driver's side axle is a cheap PEPBOYS axle, 1.5 yrs old.
- Endlinks are Karyln's
It really hasn't been getting worse. And we can go months without the noise. But when you have to slam on the brakes, you hear it. And when you gun it, you hear it. Suffice to say, we're not crazy drivers so we don't hear this sound often.
Any idea what this could be? Thanks for reading!
