David emailed me that... and I don't know the answer so I posted it here in hopes of someone knowing the answer, or an educated guess as to the 740's value.Have a Volvo 740 Turbo, first registered in 1990, this was a fairly short production run model, so I imagine rare. Mine which I have owned for about 14/15 years and has been garage maintained throughout that period has now blown the cylinder head/gasket. I am 79 years old and cannot afford to repair it. But at the same time feel it would be a shame to scrap this nice car. There is an M.O.T to it which runs to November 2017. It would make a good restoration/ repair challenge for a fellow enthusiast.
I would like a minimum of about £200/250 there are several new parts recently installed. The engine is original with about 265000 miles clocked.
Do you think it's worth this amount and also worth advertising?
Your reply would oblige , David
What's the value of a Volvo 740 Turbo with a major needed repair?

I'm not familiar with UK market, but in US, a clean 240/740/940 will fetch a decent price with a mechanical issue, if in right market location.
Several years ago, I gave around $600.00 for a clean 93-944 with a blown engine, but good tires, good battery, no rust, good exterior and interior.
Finding clean, but broken redblocks are few/far between, unless one lives where lots of them were sold.

Though I couldn't say how that market behaves I can say that if there's a way to avoid it becoming scrap do it. These are valuable cars here; there's one other in my area that passes around through hands though the catalytic converter is scrap. Best one made in many years though like most other parts on these vehicles.
Maybe someone in your family could help? If my 760 died tomorrow it'd be heartbreak city for a while but I'd find a way. There's always something that works out.
