Thanks everybody - a friend had a junk radio that I had scavenged bulbs from. I grabbed the ribbon cable and swapped it out for mine. Luckily the ribbon was the issue, the connector on the board was fine. This radio had the board not attached to the faceplate so I'm glad that worked.

My advice to anyone opening their radio - limit the number of times that you pull that ribbon out. I think it has just a few times it can be messed with before it's very likely to become distorted and/or loose.
