00 S70 5-spd non-turbo lags/surges while cruising ( 9434225 Bad fuel pump relay 103)
I have a 2000 S70 non-turbo that started acting up today. No codes or CEL. While driving along ~40 mph I started noticing an intermittent lack of throttle response, and then a surge. This happened a few times. I pulled over, put the car in neutral, idled for a second, rev'ed the engine a few times (without issue), put the car back in drive and drove the rest of the way home without issue. I've experienced ETM issues on my other S70 but I've never experienced this problem before. Does anybody know what is going on? This is my daughter's car. I'll be driving it the rest of the week in order to collect more data/symptoms.

The nice part of ME7 engine management is it's pretty simple.
How many miles on car and spark plugs? Ignition coils?
Classic cause of running issues is Vacuum leaks..you have to remove and inspect to eliminate these.
Once the ETB starts getting worn, it typicall runs 10000 miles before the ETS light shows up, and limp mode follows that shortly thereafter

Is this while you are coasting? Or going down an incline?

Beat me to it.
Easiest way to track these down is to build a DIY smoker.

I've had vacuum leaks before. They just cause overall constant degradation, not sudden intermittent stalls out of nowhere. It happened again today after 200 miles of driving. I pulled over, turned off the car. Started it again and it ran fine for the rest of the way home. I'm tending to think it may be an intermittent fuel pump issue.

Found the problem. The problem became less intermittent, engine would reliably start then conk after a second, so I was able to track it down. Good fuel pressure before starting but no fuel pressure after starting. Turned out to be the big red "103" fuel pump relay. Swapped it with the one from my other Volvo and the problem tracked with the relay.

I think Im having the same issue with a 99s70 na. Intermittent lag and cruise issue...However, more recently Ive noticed it is having problems with warm cranks. I have to give it a lil gas for it to start up. Ive read on here it could be an ect issue. Im glad I came across this post because your problems seem to mirror mine. Should I change relay and ect?Brucebo wrote: ↑12 May 2017, 21:03 Found the problem.
