P0422.. help..

Over the last month i have noticed my gas mileage see-saw. Finally, CEL came on P0422. got it cleared a couple of times, it would stay off a week or so, and then reappear, but i noticed no real difference in performance. well while comming home yesterday i had to go WOT ( something i rarely do) , my car got to about 85 and the stop pulling, the tach started studdering, and the car felt like it gas getting mild fuel cut but according to the gas hand it was dumping crazy gas! so i slowed down and gradually accelerated it was ok, only at WOT did it give me these symptoms.. p0422, i have heard a few things about what it could be. bad 02's, bad fuel injectors, and or bad cat.. which i hope it isnt. Where do i start and what could it be?

EVAP leak....usually the gas line. Could be loose gas cap but also could be the charcoal canister...if I remember the code correctly.

where is the charcoal cannister? i will check the gas cap in da morning.

the charcoal cannister is a black cylinder located under the drivers fender between the wheel and bumper.

There should be 3 lines to it. basically it takes any gas fumes from the system and sends it back to the gas tank.

Have you hit a curb or something hard with your drivers side? Chances are there lines are loose or the container is cracked.

I'm sorry- I think I put you down the wrong road...so many of these codes have similar numbers....but P0422 is Catalytic Converter, efficiency intermittent error. It could be the CAT but it could also be a vacuum leak or MAF sensor problem (very common for these to light up the CAT code) that's having an effect on the CAT. I would check all of my small vacuum hoses for leaks and clean your MAF for good measure. The CATs on these cars usually don't go. Of course, you didn't tell us what car or how many miles.

ok guys.. first of all thanks for everything! i found the problem. the clamp for the upper intercooler hose was disconnected. it had loosen and had fell down the hose. i connected and tighten it and now it runs like a champ again. now all i need is a good fuel injector cleaner..
