Turbo upgraded

Post by loosenut »

I have searched some older posts. Although thats the problem. Thwy are old like 2011 and are dead with out the info that i was hoping to find.
So sorry for being redundant.
I put on a 15g on my v70 xc.
Also ipd upgraded boost control valve. ( i support this site ) 👍
My boost is only topping out at 5psi. I have already turned the gate rod 3 turns.
Im getting ready to go green ARD.

My question... Is 5 psi all ill get for now..is that normal...until i go green...also does anyone really suggest the bypass valve spring upgrade kit.

And just for kicks... Anyone have any knowledge of those obd2 plug in tunes.

Thanks for listening.

You have to be careful tightening the wastegate rod with the 99 engine management. I think Jim has posted on this

Boost is controlled by the ECU, so unless you get a tune it will be limited. There is basically no difference from swapping the turbos.

If you follow ARD's instructions, the engine will be fine.

There is not much difference in a 13G and 15G. 13G gives more torque lower down and 15G more power higher up. To really see any difference you will need a 16T or 18T and suitable injectors and tune. This is not an area I have a huge experience in, but I have some as I have Rica software on my 2000 V70R running the standard 19T turbo and an IPD TCV as the engine has about 18psi of boost. OE TCV is only good to about 12.

If you have replaced the TCV with an ARD/Vivaperformance/IPD one they are all similar in shape. The thing to watch is not to screw the front leg of the 3 in too far. No more than 3-4 turns. It may feel loose but according to IPD it is fine like that. If you screw it in too far it collapses the little filter mesh against the TCV valve and prevents the engine boosting.

The Rica software can be purchased with a softloader which allows you to down-load the programme yourself and store the original tune if needed. The software in programmed to the VIN# and is 'owned' by the VIN#. That worked for me as it was installed by the PO and the local dealer wiped it doing an un-sanctioned ETM software upgrade. The supplier (Eurosport in Canada) sold me the softloader (paid for by the Volvo dealer!) and then gave me access to down load the software over the internet.

I believe there are a few other companies that may offer this feature now but it may be year dependant. I have read some concerns about ARD tuning recentlyso look into that before you do anything. IPD also offer a software upgrade. There is another company out there I think in the US SE, something like BRD (?) who have been getting good reviews, maybe someone here knows there name.

Good luck.

Neil.
