My NOV 1998 build T5 has hydraulics...I think. I definitely get tap-tap-tap ...silent on startup - is that a good diagnostic??

I don't actually know if hydraulic vs solid lifters look any different from the top

My cousin's T5 must have hydraulic lifters if yours is a 12/98. I think his is 7/98, but I'm not certain on that. It's 100% for sure a 1999 MY. His lifters are INCREDIBLY noisy. It never goes away. Luckily you can't hear that bad now unless the hood is up, his little muffler bypass is pretty loud.

Dang, really? All these 99s with noisy hydraulic lifters? I've never heard my lifters, except a few times during the polar vortex in early 2014, when it was absurdly cold out and I still had summer oil in the car. Otherwise my injectors are much louder.

On turbo cars, the ETS replaces the Idle Air Control valve of the earlier P80 style. When P80s honk at you driving home at 20 mph in limpmode, yell back " Go clean your IAC!"

NA cars use a new IAC On 99-00 models

1999 gets rid of the oil thermostat (near crank pulley) that occasionally screeches on the 1998- cars, I imagine it is built into the biscuit oil cooler on the back of the block

Yes. And that -'98 oil t-stat is awfully annoying. Moans like crazy every morning when I start the car.

Traction control went from TRACS to STC

STC is only on the 1999T5
Both my NA have tracs
I don’t think my 1999 s70 Awd has either?

Mattymoo lists different part numbers for the ABS module.

I measure master cylinder ports of

Front 13mm

Rear 13mm

on my 1999 with STC and MT
