I understand your concern about the "screeching". Drove me nuts. I replaced serp tensenion pulley just to be sure. Now i live with the ticking and screeching. At least my dash is quiet. I just went after an oil leak (rear ex cam seal). The weather was nice. No oil on driveway, just burning smell from ex manifold.
I have to deal with all three... screeching, ticking (less common), and my horribly creaky dash. That's probably the one and only thing I truly hate about my car. Otherwise I love it, and plan to drive the wheels off of it. I drive it hard and change the oil frequently.

Pulled the serpentine belt off this morning and started it. The sound didn't go away. I have my money on the oil cooler t-stat. Probably the OP's problem as well.

I'm about ready to go grab an oil thermostat from the JY and tear it down (as much as I can at least) to see what's going on here. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this. There is a reason for everything!

I'm not going to get into an oil discussion here, but thought I'd mention that all my tickety-clicks went away after about 1000 miles on Mobil 1 0-40. Jussayin'. ;)

Interesting, that's what my cousin is running as well, and when we changed the oil to that it went away almost completely for probably a week. We cut the exhaust around the same time, so the loud exhaust covers up the lifter tick, but I swear it's still there.
I just changed to Castrol 0w40 about 300 miles ago and it runs much smoother when up to temperature, but I hear the lifter tick a little more often when I first start the car (like I said, it only goes for about 2 seconds max most of the time). This could also be due to the Bosch filter I switched to from my usual Mann W917. I plan to go back to the Mann next oil change, and maybe switch to Penzoil Euro 0w40 depending on what's cheap at Wally World. I just know I like it better than the 10w30 I was running.

Update: So I borrowed some more tools to get the belt off on Tuesday. Before I did so, I wanted to start the car and see if the noise was present (had not heard it for a while), and if it's not one problem it's another. Turned the key, motor turned over and fired right up, but then it couldn't make it to idle. It lugged on for a few seconds before I turned the key back off. New topic incoming.

Will this noise ever be solved?
