What other Volvo sedan would you recommend?

Post by DougM »

So I have owned two 850 models. 1996 850 Platinum sedan - RIP on that one. And still own a 1996 850R Wagon.

But I'm thinking of getting another vehicle (possibly selling the 850R wagon), and was wondering what other Volvo sedan people would recommend. I like the reliability of the 850, and the fact that I could do some of the work on it (with help from here!!).

So...what would be a good sedan that is pre 2010?

Harder to find parts for but the 960/S90 were nice to drive too. Loved my 940 2.0 HPT in the UK. Fast and comfortable. Also had a 760 Turbo over here in Canada, and after sorting it out it was good to drive also (actually a 4 cyl. turbo like the 740 Turbo).

I'm young enough to understand slang but not in that context. It is a real Volvo yes, Engineered and Made by.

- The S60 is a bit tight in the rear seat (tight leg room for rear passengers).
- The S80 is a bit longer than the 850/S70 series.

Stick to 2004-2007 or so, and 2.5T engine is preferable, as long as the timing belt etc. is maintained.

2005 and less had a few tricky electrical and transmission issues. 2006+ P2 are nice cars. Like said, no rear legroom if driver's over 5'10 tall, also less legroom to the pedals. Great engines, the 2.4t and 2.5t. I think it's generally easy to work on these cars, the bolts are very easy to remove. Manual transmissions are sweet but fail at internal the master cylinder= big job.
