tires - for mud season
I own a XC70, 2008. I am looking to purchase new tires that will do extremely well during Vermont's mud season. my thought is to find tires with an aggressive tread that you might see on SUV's or small pickups. I've had one tire dealer tell me that they wouldn't do it or warrant their work as this would be an inappropriate tire for the XC70. Another tire dealer told me - "sure no problem, we can do it." So could someone please advise me on a good tire to use, especially if you have a technical analysis of a good all-season tire that works well in mud. Thank you. Sincerely, Ed Gibbs

Aggressive tread is one (good) thing, quality of the rubber is another one. You will find cheap tires with impressive and deep treads that won't do ** in deep snow. Go with the main brands, read a bit on 1010tires & similar sites

I got some used Michelin snow tires 225/60/16 for my 850. OD is same as std but 1.5" wider and rub at extreme turning but these tires are awesome. No balancing needed (just only a 1/2 oz or less so you really don't need to balance them which is typical for Michelin. They are very smooth, good grip in snow and I'm leaving them on for summer. So I'd get the right size but they are really good and have a good tread for snow at least.
