There are a few posts on this site regarding the alarm siren, servicing it at the dealership, and dyi fixes.

I just want to share my experience. Drove around for about 4 years with the service alarm message, never really bothered me much. Then as prophesized by the dealer my sunroof stopped functioning. So I figured it was time I got the software delete of the alarm system as it seemed like too much work to either replace the siren myself or dyi it.

So I got the software delete, service message gone..OK...Still no sunroof. From my observations once the sunroof is gone forget dyi and a simple software remove, the PCB in the siren is busted. Even if you do the software eventually your sunroof will stop working.

You have to disconnect the siren module after the software. In my case cut around one of the wheel well rivets and pry it enough to get a pair of scissors in there and cut one wire at a time.

If the battery explodes and melts your control board in the siren the software won't do anything on its own.

Coincidentally the loud screeching i heard Everytime I hit the windshield washer fluid through the speakers went away once I cut the wires. Nice ground fault through that PCB.

So if you decide to get the software delete get the dealer to disconnect the siren module too otherwise all you are saving yourself is the 5sec message on start-up. Eventually your sunroof will stop working.

What will that accomplish? The sunroof still won't work and you will still get the message i've been told. Did disconnecting it fix both issues? Currently I have the message and my sunroof doesn't work.
