Would a clogged PCV system cause the stalling once the pressure builds up?

Possibly, especially if one of the vacuum lines is split

So yesterday I was finally finished with my '04 V70. I had in the end replaced the MAF( but that hadn't fixed the whining or the stalling), the PCV system (I believe that fixed the whining do to the diaphram being split), cleaned the throttle body( it was really dirty) and replaced all but the larger diameter vacuum hose that goes from the intake manifold to a tree under the upper part of the engine. Took it for a test drive and everything worked just like it should. Thanks to all who helped point me in the right direction.

You described something thats points to only one thing: the PCV box with crankcase pressure regulator valve is broken. The diaphragm on top of the box, used only on the non-turbo versions of your car, ruptures and puts crankcase in vacuum. The noise can be the valve "honking" or it s air coming in at shaft seals for cam or crank and making the kazoo noise. If you do glove test it will suck the glove down dipstick tube----DON'T DO IT!
