Location of A/C high-pressure service port, 1995 850?

Post by mpchicago »

A friend of mine tried to evacuate and refill my AC system. We found the valve for the low pressure side quickly, but could not find the high-pressure port at all. So we ended up doing everything via the low pressure port, which is not optimal according to my guy (e.g. getting the oil in is a mess; also diagnosis is easier with info about both sides).
Does anybody know where the high-pressure valve is? Does it even exist?
According to the service and repair manual, chapter "A/C SYSTEM GENERAL SERVICING", last page, the footnote says "Not available at time of publication". The question is, what does that even mean? Is the info not available? Or is there simply no hp valve? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to MVS.

There is no standard High Side service port on the P80 Volvos. The closest that you can get to one is a Schrader valve that is under the high pressure switch but the AC won't run without that switch being in place. It doesn't have a R-134A connector.

The true way to get the charge spot on correct is to weigh the refrigerant in but you can get close enough just by going off of the low side pressure.

You can just put PAG oil into the receiver dryer, easy enough. You don't need to add it unless you have major component replacement or a catastrophic failure
