98 V70 rear brake overhaul question.

Post by 98v70dad »

I want to overhaul my rear brakes this weekend. I have all of the parts. From the reading available here I know that there is one side that's nearly impossible to get the hose off. If I can't get the hose off I cant use compressed air to push out the piston. So, how do you get the caliper piston off/out without making a mess? I know that I can keep pumping the brakes until the piston pops out but is there a better way?

I posted the trick for REAR Calipers in Step #14 in the link below.

NOTE:

- To prevent fluid loss, gently clamp the hose on the LEFT REAR side, this hose feeds both rear calipers. Use a piece of rubber as cushion.

- Then open the bleeder valve to allow air to go in as you use a pair of channel locks to rotate the piston and pull it out. Grab the piston ONLY at its very tip as you don't want to damage the part that mates with the seal.
