Im in a situation that I have no knowledge on. Anyone that is knowledgeable on painting cars I could sure use your help.
I was in a very small accident recently. The insurance company's pre-approved body shop gave a quote of about 1,200.00. $500 higher than another body shop that doesn't work with my insurance company.
I asked the claims guy why the difference, so high? He said the body shop I went to is just going to paint around the area where the damage is done.
He said his quote (he works for the insurance company) is done the "right way", where not just the small area is painted, but also the entire roof of the car because I don't have any trim (this model care doesn't).
He said the reason so much painting is done is to make sure the clear coat is applied properly. He said, if only the small area is repainted (it's literally the size of a silver dollar, minor rust that will get removed of course), the sun will beat down and over time. This will result in the pain job being splotchy like it's being burned off. I guess because the clearcoat would only be applied locally at the accident site, and not beyond the region of damage.

I'm no body person, but I never heard of a small area requiring painting to extend up to and include the roof of the car.
Is this guy on the level with what he said?? I have absolutely no idea.
Ozark Lee, are you around lately?

Man, some shops are good at fading and some are not. It's an old car, cross your fingers and hopefully it won't be pealing like our car after 3 years.

I plan to do it soon. There is a good video on YouTube on it. A guy did it on a black car, decent results.

It would help to show the damage and what panel it's on but the age old adage usually applies: "You usually get what you pay for"!
Email me a picture of the damage and tell me where you live (labor price differences) and I'll tell you what a GOOD job should
cost you.
