What later wheels are compatible with my 96 850?

Post by JimBee »

That's pretty much the question. My existing steel wheels are 15" and I want to stick with that size. I'll either replace one that's slightly bent , or if I find a set of 15" Volvo alloy rims I might change out the whole set. How late will fit?

I'm a little suspicious about the accuracy of this index since it groups "1993 - 1997" all together. We all know that 1993 wheels are a 4 bolt pattern (I have one of those, too).

I'm assuming that all 850's with a 5 bolt pattern are the same. But are 1998 wheels different? If they're the same, I have a couple of j.y. prospects in mind.

Every rim from s,v,c,xc70 (p80 & p2),s80,s,v90 & s60 1st gen. will fit perfectly.
The only thing that is limited is tyre width of 205mm with rims from p2 and s80 because their ET is 49.
ET for P80 is 43.
With ET 43...205 is perfect and factory fit.

Btw....there is also a section for 850 from 1991-1993.

I was concerned about bolt patterns and wheel width and hadn't really thought about wheel offset, but I now see that's just as important, due to brake part and body panel clearances, so the ET info is helpful. Thanks for the followup!

Based on that information, I also found this page: https://shopdap.com/wheel-offset-explained/

The 17" S60 wheels rub on my 95 850 T-5R in the back. They are either wider or have a different off set.

No luck today at the j.y. on the steel wheel or a good set of 15" alloys, but I DID FIND the Columba I've been searching for. Pretty nice too, and for 37 bucks made the trip worthwhile. Now the '96 850 turbo will have a complete set of decent wheels. There are two more Columbas on that car that are decent with a few marks from careless tire changes but otherwise look okay. If anybody in the Twin Cities, MN, needs one pm me and I'll let you know where to find it.
